WHAT IS CHRYOTHERAPY
Cryotherapy, which literally means “cold therapy,” is a technique where the body is exposed to extremely cold temperatures for several minutes. This helps in total body wellness in a few ways. Cryotherapy can be delivered to just one area, or you can opt for whole-body cryotherapy. Localized cryotherapy can be administered in a number of ways, including through ice packs, ice massage, coolant sprays, ice baths, and even through probes administered into tissue. The theory for whole-body cryotherapy (WBC) is that by immersing the body in extremely cold air for several minutes, you could receive a number of health benefits. The individual will stand in an enclosed electric chamber in the ultra-low temperature air for between two and four minutes. Cryotherapy is used in an effort to relieve muscle pain, sprains and swelling after soft tissue damage or surgery. It is commonly used to accelerate recovery in athletes post exercise for decades. Scientifically, cryotherapy decreases the temperature of tissue surface to minimize hypoxic cell death, swelling, and muscle spasms, all of which ultimately alleviate discomfort and inflammation.

How long is the treatment and what is the suggested length of time to get results?
Treatments last between 2 and 3 minutes. This length of time is all that is needed to promote the desired response such as inflammatory responses, endorphin release, increased energy, and boosted immune system. No session is longer than 3 minutes.
What should I wear to my treatment?
Exposed skin is suggested in order to reach the desired physiological response so there is no need to worry about bringing warm clothes. We will provide socks, slippers, gloves, and suggest you keep your undergarments on.
Is whole body cryotherapy safe?
Yes. The cold temperature is achieved by using electricity to cool the air around you. So the cooling agents never actually touch your skin making the temperature change in the body superficial. Your head will remain outside of the cooling area the entire treatment.
Does cryotherapy hurt?
It is common to associate cold with pain because we often think of ice baths or freezing cold weather. However, because the air around you is cooled you feel it as a cold breeze.
How many treatments will I need?
There is no generalized treatment plan for everyone. The amount of treatments you will need is completely up to you and your wellness goals as well as the conditions you are looking to treat. However, you will achieve longer lasting benefits if you receive treatments on a regular basis.
