What Is Laser Hair Removal

During laser hair removal treatments, a specialized laser targets the root, damaging hair follicles and stunting their growth cycle. Over the course of treatments, hair becomes lighter and thinner until the follicle is completely destroyed.

The Diolaze XL

At Blissfusion Wellness Lounge, we use the Diolaze XL laser, which offers enhanced hair removal power with optimal speed and performance. Designed with state-of-the-art diode lasers, the Diolaze XL is the most effective hair removal method available in 2022. DiolazeXL has built-in safeguards to ensure that all sessions are comfortable and relatively pain-free. Our laser treatment targets coarse and stubborn hair follicles on almost any skin type.

Before Your Laser Hair Removal Treatment

Before visiting your local med spa for your first laser hair removal appointment, it's important that you know what to expect and how to prepare. Following the proper steps will help you avoid skin irritation and ensure that laser hair removal works properly. Here's how to prepare for laser hair removal:

No waxing or plucking

Laser hair removal targets the root of the hair follicle. If there is no root, there is nothing to treat. Once you decide to proceed with laser treatments, you should avoid plucking or waxing treatment area.

Shave before your laser session

It's important to shave the treatment area before coming in for your laser hair removal treatment. This exposes the root of hair follicles and allows for the maximum benefit with each treatment session. We recommend shaving the day prior to prevent any irritation on the skin's surface.

Avoid sun exposure

Avoiding excessive exposure to the sun's harmful UV rays will prevent skin from becoming damaged or heat-sensitive. We recommend limiting UV exposure by limiting time outdoors, applying a broad-spectrum sunscreen, and no tanning beds for at least two weeks before and after your treatment.

No harsh skincare products

Patients should stick to using a gentle cleanser and moisturizer before their laser hair removal treatment. Our professionals recommend halting any self-tanning products, hydroxy acids, salicylic acid, chemical peels, and other skin-irritating substances for at least four weeks prior to laser hair removal.

Take a break from hot showers

Hot showers may feel great but they also cause dry skin. While that may not hinder treatment sessions, it may cause unnecessary irritation during and after your laser hair removal.

Wait for additional procudures

We offer a cosmetic procedure for everything but doubling up in the same treatment area isn't always the best move. The doctor's advice is to avoid getting any other medical procedure done in the same area for at least one month prior to treatment.

Shower before the appointment

Showering before laser hair removal helps remove any residual lotion or skincare products from the skin. This is important for keeping the skin fresh and prepped for treatment.

Pause certain medications

Blood thinners, pain relievers, antibiotics, and topical medications may cause the skin's surface to become more sensitive to the hair removal process. Talk to your doctor to find the ideal time to pause these medications.

After The Treatment

For the first 24 hours after laser hair removal, do not use any deodorant, skincare products, or moisturizers. Stick to using a gentle cleanser in the treated area to prevent skin irritation or damage.

As the skin begins to heal, you will experience hair follicle shedding. This typically occurs within a week of your hair removal treatment. A cool washcloth or ice pack along with aloe vera may be used to soothe the treatment area if swelling or redness occurs. While the process will not remove unwanted hair entirely after one session, you should notice less pronounced hair growth within 30 days.

You may begin exfoliating the treated areas 2-3 days after laser hair removal to expedite the shedding process and help the skin heal. After the first day or two, patients can moisturize the skin to soothe any itching or irritation they may experience.

Maintenance Treatments

While this treatment is considered to be a permanent hair removal solution, maintenance treatments are typically necessary. Because the human body constantly repairs damaged cells, hair growth may restart gradually. The length between treatments varies depending on your body and its hair growth cycle, but our professionals can give you an estimated treatment timeline during your free consultation.
